On-Grid Power
A battery energy storage system that collaborates with the plant's turbines to provide ancillary services for grid stability (aFRR ±) and black-start backup. Without the battery, operations would be technically limited in the services provided and economically disadvantageous due to the high fluctuations in turbine operation.
The Site
The battery storage system was deliberately over-dimensioned to guarantee the energy needed to smooth deviations in the designated services with the smallest possible capacity, while accounting for capacity degradation over time to secure long-term service delivery. During implementation, the challenge was integrating the whole system into a complex gas power plant without compromising its operation — building a new connection and substation for the local grid and developing a solution for seamless cooperation with the plant-wide microgrid SCADA system.
Technical Specification
Full Project Delivery
Volthein delivered the project lifecycle for the VEOLIA BESS — from consulting and engineering through grid integration and EMS, to commissioning and grid compliance.
Pre-engineered BESS blocks in three configurations — ESSENTIAL, STANDARD and PERFORMANCE. Fixed pricing, faster time to revenue, and target 99% availability.
Fully engineered BESS for projects with complex site constraints, non-standard interfaces, or specific control requirements — configurable within a validated framework.
