Ras Al Khaimah Water Plant
Aims for 100% Green Power.
100% LOCAL ENERGY COVERAGE.
A large-scale production facility in Ras Al Khaimah operated 24/7 with its entire electricity demand covered by the regional distribution grid (33kV, 10 MVA connection). Annual consumption exceeded 35 GWh, with load levels between 3–5 MW.
With flat, unused rooftops and adjacent land available, the client's ambition was to integrate photovoltaics and move toward 100% local energy coverage — to stabilize costs and secure long-term competitiveness.
Ras Al Khaimah's excellent solar conditions made PV a logical first step. However, with continuous 24/7 operation, PV alone could only supply up to 30% of consumption during daytime hours. The challenge: cover the remaining 70% — including nights, cloudy days and seasonal variability — without relying on the grid.
The requirement was clear: ensure stable energy supply entirely from local renewable sources.
A HYBRID POWER PLANT IN ONE SEAMLESS SYSTEM.
Volthein designed a hybrid power plant that integrates rooftop PV, ground-mounted PV, and a BESS into one seamless system — controlled by a single EMS layer.
- Full coverage of available roof space
- Direct consumption in production — no surplus
- Bifacial modules for maximum yield
- Minimal land use footprint
- Single-axis tracker with bifacial modules
- Optimized for maximum annual yield
- Adjacent land — minimal site impact
- Feeds both direct load and BESS charging
- Short-term balancing and backup
- Covers night-time and cloudy periods
- Prevents grid dependency during PV gaps
- Integrated with EMS for automated dispatch
- Acts as an "accumulation buffer" for PV energy
- Supplies energy back during months with reduced solar output
- Manages clipped energy and seasonal variability
