Innovative Off-Grid Warehouse
for 24/7 Operations.
STABLE POWER FOR A FACILITY THE GRID COULDN'T SERVE.
A logistics client planned the construction of a 56,000 m² automated warehouse near Amsterdam-Schiphol Airport — operating 24/7 with a peak load of 3.5 MW and annual consumption of 15 GWh.
The local distribution grid lacked the capacity to cover the warehouse's demand. While a grid connection was technically possible, it could not serve as the sole dependable energy source. The challenge: create a sustainable, independent power system that ensures stable operations at all times.
The guiding principle was long-term sustainability in both quantity and cost of electricity, with priority on local green resources.
The challenge: create a sustainable, independent power system that ensures stable operations at all times.
AN INTEGRATED MULTI-SOURCE ENERGY SYSTEM.
Volthein designed a hybrid off-grid power plant combining solar, battery storage, gas engines and biofuel backup — unified under one EMS control layer for 24/7 reliable operation.
- Primary renewable electricity source
- Dual-orientation panels for maximum capture
- Full coverage of 56,000 m² roof
- Feeds direct load and BESS charging
- Balances PV fluctuations
- Shifts solar energy for night-time use
- Backup reserve during PV or gas downtime
- Automated EMS dispatch
- Stable generation during solar shortages
- Combined heat for warehouse operations
- Hydrogen-ready potential for future upgrade
- Dispatchable on-demand power
- Emergency reserve in case of gas supply issues
- Local biofuel storage ensures full independence
- Final safety layer — guarantees 24/7 uptime under any condition
